Yay:)! (also, Boo:()

So, here are some of the things that are currently rocking my world, in rather awesome vid form.

First up, Doctor Who!
The fabulous [livejournal.com profile] shan_3414 posted her first ever Who vid today, and it's just ♥.
Just look at it, you guys!

God, I ship it. So hard.

My season 1 DVD of Legend of the Seeker finally arrived yesterday, so I spent rather a large chunk of my second day off sick marathoning the first half of the season (I actually failed to even leave the house for the first time since I don't know when). And then, this morning when I was looking back over Shan's old entries I found this, by blackiebrans (it's a little spoilery for season 1, but not too much. It's also totally awesome).

*le sigh* Look at how pretty they both are. I love them ♥

And then [livejournal.com profile] dazzleme89 (one of the best vidders in Skins fandom) posted this rather amazing Effy vid over at [livejournal.com profile] skinsfans. Effy (for all that they completely screwed with her character in Season 4) remains arguably my favourite character in anything, ever (in large part, it must be said, due to her characterisation in non-canon stuff like Bedlam, Transatlanticism and Fate is Overgrown), and this may just be the definitive Effy vid.

Oh Effy ♥
I'll never stop being pissed off with how badly they messed with her in S4, but she will always remain awesome.

I actually struggled into work today, although I probably shouldn't have done. The high point of the day was lunch time, when I managed to get down the first few hundred words of a story that's been going round my head for the last few days. It is (God help me) a Lucy POV Chronicles of Narnia fic (Jesus. IDEK) and, if I actually have the impetus to finish it, it'll be, without a doubt, the wrongest thing I've ever written.
But honestly, whatever. I blame C. S. Lewis. He totally asked for it. And, according to at least some people's attitude to fan fiction, it's totally not immoral if the author's dead. So there :p

In the "things that are totally not awesome" list:- this morning, for the first time, I heard the phrase "the Prime Minister, David Cameron". Followed by the phrase "the Foreign Secretary, William Hague". D: D: I wanted to drive my car into the central reservation. Kill me now.
Oh, and Theresa May, as Home Secretary, and Minister for Women and Equality? Someone who, by the way (to quote Wikipedia) is listed as "moderately against" equal rights for homosexuals on the Public Whip website, and has, "in recent years been absent from or voted against most gay equality measures"? Jesus.
Equality. They keep using that word. I do not think it means what they think it means ...

There was something else, but it seems to have vanished. Oh yes, that was it. The Vice-Presidency of the United States was once famously described as being "not worth a bucket of warm piss" (by John Nance Garner, who was, amongst other things, 32nd Vice-President of the US, so presumably he knew what he was talking about). Would anyone be able to tell me exactly how much more than a bucket of warm piss the Deputy Premiership of the UK is worth? Nick Clegg seems to have sold out a lot of the principles of his own party for the post, so I really hope it's worth something.

Somewhat relatedly, I've been meaning to give Ade (one of my old gaming acquaintances. I finally took to the hills when the whole thing became too unbearable) a ring recently. Things haven't been that great for him, I think, and I've been feeling guilty. Then I saw this status update on his FaceBook:
"Democracy works. We now have a PM that has been chosen by the people. He now needs to listen and take action..."
I'm going to ignore the willful, but all too common, ignorance in the assumption that we elect the Prime Minister. (We don't. Ours isn't a Presidential system. How hard is it to understand that?). But that, and the comments that followed reminded me of what I already knew. He's a fairly ardent Tory, and a Thatcherite one at that (his FaceBook profile lists his political views as "Conservative/Imperialist" (no, seriously, I'm not making that last bit up)). I know it's a bit unfair, but given that the we have nothing in common but gaming, I'm not entirely sure I can get past that any more.
On the other hand, he's a genuinely nice person, and I really should be able to get past his political views. Does the fact that I can't make me a bad person, I wonder?
Gah. Conflicted.

For no other reason than that there's a whole bunch of stuff in my collection that I haven't listened to in years, I've recently embarked on a complete relisten of all my CDs, in alphabetical order (cos I'm anal like that). I'm about half way through the A's, which currently means Assemblage 23's "Failure". That's the album that contains "Disappoint", the song Tom Shear wrote about his father's suicide:
"I can't forget
Having to see
The words that knocked the wind
Right out of me,
It's not enough
I've come undone
Trying to find sense
Where there is none".
Yay. Cheerful.

And obviously related, Steve would have been 38 a little while ago, had he not chosen the other option. It doesn't really get any easier. Ho hum.

But whatever. I have gin and rather a lot of episodes of Legend of the Seeker to watch. That's my Friday night sorted.
How are you guys?
