80 minutes that I'll never get back

Currently I have Borat - lent unasked by a guy at work - on in the background, basically contaminating my TV, my ears and my brain. It turns out that it's exactly as bad as I suspected it would be - 80 minutes of one-note comedy racism, oh goody -  but I have to get through it, one way or another, so I can get it out of the house as soon as humanly possible. So this is as good a time as any other to update with something other than fandom- related squeeing I suppose.

Of course, that means that I have to have something to write that's not fandom-related squeeing which, given the state of my brain recently, is probabaly asking a lot ...

This weekend was rather brightened by a visit from [livejournal.com profile] cholten99 . Although I rather failed in my capacity of ambassador for my adoptive home - by the time we got to the brand spanking new museum it was 15 minutes before closing time. Whoops - it was a nice couple of days, even if - as seems to be the case most of the time these days - I basically functioned on nowhere near enough sleep and rather too much nicotine, caffeine and codeine (best over-the-counter painkiller EVER). I'd been a little nervous as to how things would go as [livejournal.com profile] cholten99  and I, despite having crossed paths several times over the last few years, don't actually know each other all that well. It turns out that my worries were largely misplaced, as I had lots of fun, and he seemed to as well (I hope). I may have had rather more gin on Saturday night than was technically healthy though, and gin always makes me loud and rather giggly . In this case,  in the course of a game of Battle Star Galactica, it made me decide to ship Helo and Starbuck something fierce (they would be sort of pretty together, after all :)), which may have rather damaged the tension somewhat, even if it did amuse me no end :D.
Somehow I appear to have managed to lend the first season of Gossip Girl to [livejournal.com profile] cholten99  and [livejournal.com profile] alobear  though, and while I adore it, I don't think I managed to make it clear that it's the very definition of the phrase "guilty pleasure". Perhaps they'll like it. If not - sorry guys, I sort of tried to warn you. Honest :)

July was mostly notable for Latitude, and, this being festival season in England, it was really quite remarkably soggy. Ignoring that literal dampener on the proceedings, there was more than enough going on to make it worthwhile, although the amount of actual music I saw was really quite pitiful. With a program the shape and size of the average novel, and having been born with no organisational skills whatsoever, I mostly just went with the flow. However, both The Petshop Boys and Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds (our two main reasons for going) were absolutely fabulous in every way (although it would probably  be hard to find two more different bands) . And Jeremy Hardy - arguably my favourite living comedian (Bill Hicks probably takes the all-time slot) - playing on his 48th birthday, and as funny and adorable as ever, completed my trinity of favourites.
So, despite the weather, it was mostly a success. And tempers remained largely unfrayed, which was nice ;)

Have fun all xxx

Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds and Aqua? Pet Shop Boys and Cannibal Corpse?

*grins*

Well if you're going to take me literally ;)
It's possible that I may have been exaggerating for effect...
I'd be quite interested to see Pet Shop Boys and Cannibal Corpse on the same bill though :)

Edited to point out that there's something disturbingly pornographic about the picture of Mitchell in my icon. I'd never noticed it before.
Oh well.

I had a great time - thanks for putting me up.

Give me a shout the next time you're coming down to the smoke.

And thanks for coming :).
You're both always more than welcome whenever you're in this neck of the woods again.

And yes, I'll drop you a line next time I'm down.

Don't worry about Gossip Girl - I'm quite looking forward to giving it a try and it makes my One Tree Hill DVDs look less lonely! :o)

And yes, cholten99 had just as much fun as you did.

I'm glad :)

GG is fabulous, just don't take it too seriously. Most of the characters are sort of annoying, but Blair, Serena and Chuck are just so much fun.
Blair especially is fab: brittle, bitchy, insecure, awesomely shallow, I ♥ her so much. I ship Serena and Blair to a rather worrying degree (although that's never going to happen in-show, of course) and Blair, Serena and Chuck are my original OT3 :)
