So I'm obsessed. Whatever, you gotta have a hobby right?

This really isn't part of my ongoing campaign to get [livejournal.com profile] alobear to break down and watch Season 3 of Skins. Honest...
But really, look at the pretty.

This - made by [livejournal.com profile] mercifulpoetry for [livejournal.com profile] jengrrrl - is 1 minute and 22 seconds of solid awesome. And that icon? That's me every time I watch it ...

Meanwhile, I'm rather wondering how Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip didn't get picked up for a second season ...

video = amazing.

Isn't it?
I've watched it about 15 times and every time I'm just a complete weepy mess. It's like it just distills the heart and soul of the show into a minute and a half of pure ♥ ♥ ♥

So, you're going to keep trying, are you? :o)

Isn't getting me hooked on Gossip Girl enough? Skins is just too traumatic - I'd rather stick with shallow and fluffy!

It's ok, I mostly know when I'm beaten. Mostly ;)

It can be traumatic, and season 2 was horribly so. I think they completely messed up the balance there, to be honest, and a lot of it was pretty horrible. In season 3, they did a much better job of balancing out the light and dark bits, and there is a fair bit of fluff mixed in with all the heavy emotion. And the central love story is just glorious.
I do spend a large amount of the time that I watch it crying my eyes out though. That's one of the things I love about it :)

>wondering how Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip didn't get picked up for a second season

I seem to recall there was a show with a similar setting, which did much better in the ratings. Buggered if I can remember what it was called: we watched Studio 60...

Aahh, I think that'll be 30 Rock. I've not seen it but it seems to be rather popular.

(Irrelevant icon is irrelevant. But rather fabulous :))

30 Rock is magnificent. One of the funniest show on tv and one of the few I'll watch on network tv. Studio 60 didn't make it through even one season here so there is no second season. I'm not even sure they filmed the whole 22 episodes. Only one of the "Saturday Night Live" shows was going to make it and 30 Rock won.

I'll have to check it out, I've heard good things about it from other people as well.
It was a great shame about Studio 60 though. It's every bit as good as I'd have expected from Aaron Sorkin (basically everything I know about US politics, I learned from the West Wing. I love it so much). But they released all 22 episodes of season 1 on DVD, and even though the last few episodes were a bit rushed as they struggled to tie up loose ends when they got cancelled, it winds up quite nicely, so it's not all bad, I suppose.

Studio 60 had some great people attached and good critical reviews, which is probably why it held on for so long - and no one wants to piss off Aaron Sorkin. The US television biz is brutal and often unfair (I've had several of my favorites canceled before their time). More often than not, whether a show continues is based only on demographics - and thus advertising rates - which is why Buffy and Gossip Girls (low-rated overall) survive. Studio 60 lost viewers continually throughout its run despite its quality. It's the U.S. I guess - nothing we do makes much sense...
Sorry to go on, I have a friend in the business and I'm rather fascinated by it.
Love the icon ;)
