These two characters are just so incredibly broken, the only difference being Effy hides it so much better and is able to, somehow, hold it all together more. The common ground they share is actually surprising and I could totally see Effy reaching out and connecting with Sophia because she's always tried to help those around her.
It's such a shame that season 4 totally fucked these characters over. *sighs*
