Kind of a random picture to start off with, but then I think this post may turn out to be made up of kind of random things, so whatever. I've been on Tumblr for about a month and nothing has changed my initial impression that it's largely a whole array of very pretty (and sometimes very pervy) pictures. Which is nice, of course, but it rather fails on the whole interaction thing, which is one of the things I like most about LJ. Given that, I'm super happy that both
shan_3414 and
blurubberband55 have expressed their intention to come home :). It's been so quiet here recently, it'll be nice for things to be a little more lively :). Of course, I can't guarantee that I'll post more myself. I always intend to, but I'm so good at just faffing my time away that, well, I'm never as productive as I'd like at anything (who is?).
Anyway, where was I? Ah yes, this!

Mostly, I guess, I'm wishing that more Call of Cthulhu players looked like that, cos, well, ♥_♥ .
It's been absolutely steaming today, which (possibly unusually) always makes me antsy and depressed. The rest of the weekend was fun though. It was
alobear and
cholten99's anniversary, so I pootled down to London for a very nice day of playing games. I was, of course, soundly beaten in everything I played (I'm not all that good at competitive games. I just don't care that much about winning and I'm always rather surprised when I do). Still, it was a lovely day, spent with lovely people, which is always good.
And on the way back to the car, this song (which I've always loved) played, and it turns out that it had a certain ~significance to the two people I was with, which was rather sweet, and a lovely end to the day.
(This is the Eva Cassidy version, because Youtube decided to take the original down :()
Oh, and while I'm posting songs from the 80s, have I ever posted Fields of the Nephilim's The Watchman? I'm going to assume I haven't, because I really can't be bothered to go back through my old posts and it's one of my favourite songs by one of my favourite bands (although I actually vastly prefer Elizium (the album that followed the one that this was on) to this. I've listened to that a ridiculous amount of times). I have to admit, most of what I like about The Watchman (and honestly, you really want to not listen to the lyrics too closely, cos they're rather ridiculous too) is the opening guitar, which is 45 seconds of ethereal, icy beauty. I never tire of hearing it, and I can forgive the song its flaws for the sake of it.
Of course, it's also the source of the title for the story I'm currently working on (and have been for the last year or so. God, I have the worst writer's block ever. I know what I want to happen, I just don't know how to get there. Mind you, I guess my ambitions are minor. I want to write incestuous smut. Is that so wrong? But I also want it to be plausible, romantic, sweet, hot, and, well, inevitable. Unsurprisingly, that's not quite so easy as it might sound)).
Something else that I'm not sure that I've posted before next. I was stalking
shan_3414's youtube page, which is a treasure trove of awesome, and I found this. I've seen it before, of course, but it still makes my heart clench. It's just really beautiful.
After a number of conversations with a whole bunch of people - only a couple of which were rather spoilery - I've decided that I need to jump on the A Song of Ice and Fire bandwagon. I've been deliberately avoiding it for a long time, partly because of George R. R. Martin's rather well-known problem with deadlines (or possibly writer's block? Who knows) and partly because I have no particular love for epic/heroic fantasy any more. (Mind you, I put off reading Tanith Lee's Tales from the Flat Earth for the longest time, even though she's one of my favourite authors, because I wasn't that interested in embarking on a multi-thousand page fantasy epic and it's amazing. Seriously, so good (although, criminally, out-of-print more often than it's available - thank god for eBay!)). But I've heard too many good things about it to be stubborn much longer. So yes, multi-thousand page fantasy epic, here I come!
I should be ready to watch the series about the time it's available on DVD. Annoyingly I've just started rereading Gormenghast, which always takes me a while (Peake's writing is rather dense, and largely plot-free. If you're going to bother to read it, there's really no point rushing it, and there's absolutely no point skimming it, because the writing is everything). But at least I know what I'm going to be reading next.
Oooh, and I nabbed this from Shan too. It's rather pretty :)
Not much else to say really. Gaming continues to be ridiculous but entertaining. Our youngest Chris - whom we call Chris Tarquin to differentiate him from the oldest Chris, who's Chris Prime - still hasn't got a handle on how lethal the system is, and he certainly doesn't seem to have gathered that Andrew is a thoroughly ruthless GM. He's like a lamb to the slaughter really. Bless ;)
Oh and finally, I've heard a whole load of good things about Community, although I still don't really know what it's about. I saw a picture on Tumblr recently that kind of made me want to find out more though :D (I'd post it here, but it's more than a little pervy, so). Oh, I'm so shallow :P
I've waffled on long enough, I think.
I hope you're all well :)

I've been watching most of Game of Thrones, it's really quite an excellent series. I couldn't get into the books, there's just so much death and manipulation, and call me a sucker but I like my fantasy novels a bit happier :/ It's a great show though, I love Danaerys and Arya is absolutely my favorite. And Chris from Skins is in it! Rather briefly, but still.
Hope your writers block gets better, email me if you want to chat about anything! <3

I'm ok, mostly! How are you?
I forget, are you doing the Skins Big Bang (or Little Bang) this year? Obviously, I'm available for betaing duties if you are (mind you, I've been a bit rubbish for the last week. I owe Liz notes on her LB story and I've been so busy. Gah. Fail! Gonna have to get my backside in gear).
Time After Time is really pretty, isn't it? (Although I have to admit, I read your comment initially as 'it was like porn or something'. Which suggested a whole different image than what you intended, I think :p).
I noticed from your Tumblr that Chris was in A Game of Thrones! Good to hear he's working. He was probably my favourite character in gen 1. Thinking about it still makes me sad, even now.
I tend to prefer my fantasy a little fluffier too, but I've heard such good things that I really must give them a go!
The writer's block is about 50% block and 50% failure of motivation and I'm not sure which is causing which. It's very annoying. I might drop you a line with what I have of chapter 4 at some point. You might be able to tell me if it's worth keeping, because I'm not sure it is :(
Either way, I'll definitely write soon!
I hope things are fabulous with you :)
