prunesquallormd: (Fantasy-me)
Work today passed in something of a daze. Unsurprisingly, given the weekend I've had, which was fab enough that I even experienced the classic mid-week crash this afternoon, having spent yesterday and this morning in an unreasonably good mood. (I'm happy to say, though, that the crash was nowhere near as intense as the ones I used to get after a weekend of pills and speed, which was the reason I stopped doing the damn things).
It was really rather unfortunate that I decided it would be a good idea to call Becca and Tom last night. (You'd think, wouldn't you, that being in a stupidly good mood and, by my standards, feeling positively loquacious, it would be the perfect time to call old friends I've not spoken to in a few months. You would, however, be sorely mistaken). Tom answered - a lovely guy, and a good friend, but a little laconic especially on the phone - and I spent the next half hour or so in bizarrely random gabble mode - alternately bouncy and bitchy. At one point, my mouth having lost all contact with my brain - which is rather unusual for me, to say the least - I told him blithely that I've always really rather fancied his little sister (I say little - I met her when she was 20ish and she's about 27 now. Also, she's 6 foot 1. So not particularly little, either way).
*Head* *desk* What possessed me? And I'm going to visit this weekend as well. Gah.

[livejournal.com profile] lareinemisere has already given her impressions of the Assemblage 23 gig here , and there must be bed soon, so I'll just ramble for a bit ;).
While it was rather a shame to miss the first half hour of the set - my fault for suggesting we wander round Camden in the afternoon, I think - we saw enough of the good stuff to get things going with a bang, although I would have liked to have heard Human and, especially, Skin. I was especially happy to hear Disappoint, particularly as (possibly naively) I'd thought that it was a little too personal for him to want to sing live. It's one of the few I know word for word, so I was positively screaming along, and the section that goes "Though you are gone/I am still your son/And though your pain is over mine has just begun" had its usual effect.
Tom Shear - Mr Assemblage 23 himself - came across as a thoroughly nice guy, and I'd certainly agree that his handling of the encore was refreshing.
The rest of the night lived up to the beginning, and as usual, the company was most excellent. And yes, by the end of the night, I was actually enjoying the dancing ;).

Twas fabulous to catch up with Miriam on Thursday night, albeit all too briefly. Must do it more often!

So, a thoroughly enjoyable weekend, consisting of good music, dressing up, excellent company and pleasant conversation (although a little marred by my suffering a bit of an attack of the screaming neurotics at the end. Apologies for that).
Thanks to all involved, and especially thanks to [livejournal.com profile] corone for allowing me to keep his girlfriend company while he was in the Colonies :)
