First of all, a massive congratulations to all my friends in the United States for staving off the threat of a Republican president for 4 more years. I have to admit, I was getting more than a little nervous myself at how close it all seemed to be, so the fairly decisive trouncing Romney got was rather nice to wake up to.
Of course, before the election, I saw comments online arguing that the polls were biased towards the Democrats, and then, afterwards, that people didn't vote for Obama so much as against Romney, but that's clearly just a massive case of Republican sour grapes, and either way the result is the same so it looks like they'll just have to suck it up.

Whitby was tiring but fun, and the gig on Friday night, ending with Mesh, was rather fab. It's a shame that the Saturday gig was largely underwhelming and finished, courtesy of Alien Sex Fiend, with the worst set I've ever heard in my entire life. I don't know if they were trying to completely alienate their audience or what but well, I've heard a couple of their early tracks and have always thought that, while not really my cup of tea, they're competent enough at what they do. Apparently though, these days they've decided that some tuneless, lyricless, I don't know, maybe art-rock(?) cacophony is the way to go. Yay. We left half way through the set, as did an awful lot of other people, as far as we could see.

The weather held out, and the company was good, and all in all a good time was had. I've never seen Whitby more rammed than it was on Saturday though, and hope never to again. Shuffling at about a mile an hour down teeny streets surrounded by hoards of people is never a fun experience and it's not helped by promenading goths in all their finery stopping to pose for photos every few yards. Grrrr!

All that traipsing up and down hills followed by a 4-ish hour drive back has played havoc with my lower back, but it's better today than it has been for the last couple of days, so hopefully it'll be back to normal soon.

I've just spent a couple of hours typing up the results of the last couple of weeks' writing (the first proper writing I've done since May). Typing up about two thirds of the way through a chapter helps me get a feel of how it's going and reassures me (or not!) that it's not quite as awful as it feels when I'm actually writing. It turns out that writing more days than not over the past fortnight has given me a grand total of a little under 3000 words. This is why I'll never be a professional writer, and why I'll never do Nanowrimo!
Still, it's moving, though glacially slowly, and the end is finally in sight. If I finish before next May then that'll be three years from starting, which seems like a good target to aim for XD

I found out today that they're making (or have finished?) a film of Max Brooks's 'World War Z', which makes me happy although I really don't know if it'll be possible to make it anything but tangentially similar to the book. I loved it, but it's really just a collection of hundreds of little vignettes charting the beginnings of the zombie outbreak and the 'war' that follows. There's no single point of view character to focus on throughout and it seems from the trailer that they've kept to a fairly traditional 'one man and his family' kind of plot, so it's bound to be very different. The risk is that it becomes just another zombie film, but then I like zombie films, so that's not that big a tragedy. We'll see, I guess. Either way, I'm looking forward to checking it out.
The trailer is here, if you're interested:-

Righty, that's me for tonight I think. Talking of zombie films, I think I'm going to watch Rec 2 and then get a vaguely early night. I'll leave you with this, which is one of my favourite Mesh songs.

Have fun, y'all :)
