Of course, Limerick's nowhere near as bad as the nickname suggests. Apparently, usually only the criminals get stabbed, by other criminals (obviously, or they wouldn't be going around stabbing people).
I can't say I'd go there on holiday (although plenty of people seem to, especially with the Americans come to reclaim their Irish heritage around St Paddy's day, but it's a pleasant enough city. And it has the best Indian restaurant I've ever eaten in in my life. I'm not usually a huge fan of Indian food. I like it well enough and it always leaves me pretty much sated, but that's usually it. This place was something else entirely. If you're ever in Limerick, it's highly recommended. Except that I haven't the foggiest clue what the place was called. Some restaurant critic I am :).
There being little else to do when you're away for two weeks with work, I spent an awful lot of time in pubs (at least I had company, work company maybe, but they were all pretty sound). And, for me, I drank a lot. Only two or three pints a night, but that's what I would usually drink in a week, and ordinarily I wouldn't see any need to drink every night. And, if you're me, drink = cigarettes. Except, now you can't smoke in any enclosed places in Ireland.
Now, I always thought this was a good idea in theory, but was never sure how I'd manage in practice. I realise I'm probably preaching to the converted here ;) but I can say now that, in practice, I thoroughly approve. It makes such a huge difference to the surroundings - you get so used to pubs being eyewateringly smoky it seems the natural way, but hell, I smoke (well I steal other people's fags) and I really don't like it, so god knows what nonsmokers make of it. So bring on the ban, I say :).

I think this comes under the heading of way too much information )
Well, I think I know what I'll be wearing to the Torture Garden birthday bash in May. Not sure I'll get down there, what with one thing and another, but fingers crossed :). Anyone fancy it?
