A message to the England football team
Jun. 29th, 2006 06:19 amEvery 4 years - ok, let's be honest, I'm the same with every international football competition that England is involved in, and I'm not exactly religious about the other sports either, although the Tour de France is bearable, if only for the pretty scenery - I spend the time from the beginning of the first round to the day of England's inevitable (gods please let it be so ...) ejection in a state of mixed loathing, disbelief and contempt. I claim no interest in the subject, but I'm actually as focussed on it as everybody else - apparently - on the entire bloody planet, it's just that every fibre of my being is concentrated on willing those 11 educationally subnormal neanderthals to do the decent thing and just bloody LOSE. And every time, I get more vehement, but then - is it just me? - every time the frenzy is that much more intense. Because there is of course nothing more important than watching 22 men kick a piece of plastic filled with air around a park.
There are no finer feelings here. I'm not going to suggest that all this energy and passion could actually do some good if it was set towards achieving something important, although it probably could. It's just that I hate it. I loathe and despise it with a passion that surprises even me. And I would have a hard time saying why. Yes, it bores me silly, but then so does every sport, and I don't have the same sort of emotional response.
Of course, there's the fact that, as a male who doesn't like football you're very much made to feel like a freak, and, well, gender dysphoric transvestite, so I already feel like more than enough of a freak, thank you so much.
And now I've lost a full 40 % of my gaming group until 10th July. Grrrr.
And so, to "our boys" battling it out in Germany, I'd just like to say 'Lose. Don't mess around, just do it. You know it's all you're good for. And it would make me very happy'.
