Well, according to the wonder of Google (Google knows all, Google sees all ...), Midian, before the name was appropropriated by one of Liverpool's more famous sons, was the place where Moses spent his 40 years in the wilderness before returning to lead the Hebrews out of captivity. Which suggests to me that it was probably torturously hot and kind of deserted.
To focus on the negative first - and there's not much negative this time - torturously hot and kind of deserted would be a not entirely non-apt description of my Saturday night. For all the Goths - or at least gothy looking kids; lets face it, a lot of them are probably too young to be going out clubbing - in evidence in Liverpool on any given day, any attempt at a Goth night I've been to in the city, and this is a constant complaint on the forums too, has always lacked the most important thing - i.e. support. Where are the people? There's so little in the way of this sort of stuff here that you'd at least think people would go to the trouble of dragging themselves out once a month. Because if they don't, it'll die and that'll be that.
Which would be a real shame, because, even given the feeling of a school disco that a lack of bodies always gives a club (although it was only really one largish room in Casa's - a venue I've only been to a couple of times before, but which, it turns out, I actually rather like) - I had lots of fun. It also meant I got to dress up, which is always going to make me happy :) .
Of course, I vastly underestimated the time it would take me to get ready. After all, ordinarily it's jeans, t-shirt, done (after having spent an hour in the bath, but that's never going to change). So that's about 10 minutes, probably less.
As some of you know, my goth outfits really don't differ much from my TG ones, except sans wig (although I briefly considered the wig. I'm glad I didn't go with it though, because I would literally have melted), mask and fishnets, and with lower heels on the boots. (And a very cute skirt from Heavy Red, that I'd never got to wear before). So it really shouldn't surprise me that it takes a *little* bit longer. But still ...
I got out of the bath some time after 8. Nails first, and the climbing really isn't that conducive to keeping them nice, so that took at least half an hour. Then makeup. Which I managed to pretty much mess up the first time - at least around the eyes and lips (so most of it then). So clean it off and do it again. By this time it's about half nine, but at least the actual getting dressed shouldn't take too long ...
I finally left the house at somewhere around half past 10. So around 2 and a half hours in total then (which is actually an improvement on some of my previous efforts). But hey, I *like* playing dress up.
This did mean that I missed most of Siobhan's set, which was one of the reasons that I went, although I did enter the club (after having spent about 10 minutes getting up the courage to walk through the door ...) to the strains of Dominion/Mother Russia. Always a good choice.
And Cosi told me that she loved the way I looked, which was very sweet of her :) .
And all in all, despite the hellish heat and the rather disappointing turnout, I had a wonderful time. The people were lovely, the music was pretty good (although I didn't recognise most of it) and I bounced around lots.
So, much with the fun.
And next month, it runs all afternoon and Storm Constantine's going to be there.
I believe the phrase 'speechless with geekly joy' would be appropriate ;)
