Paranoia! Tentacles!! Slough!!!
Feb. 18th, 2007 06:57 pmYep, I've now had the pleasure of visiting Slough. I can die happy.
And thanks to a failure of communication re. a rather important point of configuration (I won't bore you with the details), I get to go there again on Tuesday. Joy :) . (Can anyone tell me why it is that I find even the name of the place faintly ridiculous? It engenders the same feeling of vaguely amused contempt that Milton Keynes does. Couldn't say why though).
So, Friday involved leaving the house at 6.15 am to get the 7am train to Euston, thence to Paddington and Slough. Where noone was expecting me, and where it took over an hour even to the find the machine I was supposed to be working on. Then endless phone calls before we came to the conclusion that the whole thing was a bust. I finally arrived home at 10 pm.
I actually had rather a nice day. I got paid to sit on a train and read for eight hours. There are worse things to do.
My mood has vastly improved over the last couple of days. I still have the distinct feeling that Cath is avoiding me after our little spat a few weeks ago - this is one of the reasons I was so oogie last week - but I'm told (oh, how I love the 'he said, she said' school playground gossip bullshit ...) that she was complaining that, although we parted on good terms, I hadn't been in touch since. So apparently she just missed *all* of my calls (and let's just say that there have been enough of them that I'm starting to feel like a stalker). Of course, I would have to say that it's a bit much her complaining about not having heard from me when I know for a fact that she's made no effort to get in touch (unless she's resorted to some sort of extra-sensory mode of contact). Why is it that a large number of my friendships resemble those of a teenager? Is it me, I wonder?
Yesterday was the Saturday after payday, and I completely failed in my attempt not to splurge massively, although I was surprisingly restrained in Lush. Which made up for Arkham Horror (a ridiculously expensive board game). Mmmm, oodles of be-tentacled Cthulhoid goodness :). In our first game I managed to both die *and* go mad. Yay. Go me ;).
Finally, a very happy birthday to
lareinemisere. I hope you had fun :).
