So, more than seven years after seeing my first episode, and 3 years after I started rewatching from the beginning, I've just finished watching the last episode of Farscape.
And I was in bits. But then, that was probably fairly predictable.

Generally, I think they did a pretty good job of it, although it suffered from the same problem as Serenity - if you take a season's worth of story arc and compress into two hours and forty minutes you strip out the major virtue of episodic television, which is the luxury of time. When you have 22 45minute episodes, you can give your characters - and there are some wonderful characters- the time they deserve, you can vary pace and mood, and, within the limits of where the story needs to go, you can throw in all the surprises you like. Here, there were no lulls, or humorous interludes, no calm, before the storm or in the eye of the storm. It was all just storm.
But these are quibbles - they got cancelled, so there was never going to be a full 5th season, and it was pretty miraculous that they got to finish the story at all, even in this abbreviated form. Taken for what it is, rather than what it could have been, I loved it. I spent the last half an hour crying my eyes out (and the obligatory death of a much-loved character elicited more than a few sobs). Which is exactly as a series finale should be :) .

By last episode, do you mean the end of Peacekeeper Wars?
I found with that miniseries the first part was such utter drivel I nearly didn't bother with the second. But the second was just so good I'm glad I did.

For me, Farscape didn't live up to the hype.
There were some very great stories and moments, but it never managed to really do drama well outside the main character's romances.
I've also not forgiven tham for making the end of series 4 a cliff hanger when they knew they were canned.

Was certainly a cut above so much else,
but when I finally got round to watching it properly I found it disappointing, given what I was expecting.
(Stark also annoyed me no end with his constant over-acting)
Not to say it wasn't very very good, just a shame it wasn't brilliant.

Yes, the final mini-series.
I agree that it took them a little while to get into their stride - you can almost see the actors struggling to get back into character, after almost 2 years away, in what was obviously a very tight schedule.
Farscape doesn't have the same place in my heart that Buffy, or Firefly, does but this is a Sci-Fi show that I love, and that's a very rare thing. I've been trying to think of a way to articulate exactly why, but I'm finding it surprisingly tricky. I'd certainly accept that the stories can be a little rough, and a tad recycled, but I have to refute the assertion that they only work well within the bounds of the main romantic setups. It stands and falls on its relationships, certainly, but not only of the romantic kind (the Crichton-D'Argo relationship is a case in point).
Which is where it bears comparison with Buffy and Firefly - it has fab characters. Even - especially - the puppets: Rijel and Pilot are more fully realised and believable, and have more depth of character, than the entire cast of a number of other shows I can think of.
But then, that's my weakness - make me fall in love with the central characters, and then make me cry, and I'll forgive pretty much anything :)
