Just popping in to say hi :)
Oct. 17th, 2010 06:48 pm![[personal profile]](https://www.dreamwidth.org/img/silk/identity/user.png)
I've sat down a few times over the last couple of weeks to post here, and just haven't been able to find any motivation at all, or think of anything much worth writing about. Of course, I probably still won't be able to think of anything worth posting writing about, but I'm not entirely sure why that should stop me :P
So yeah, lacking in motivation, inspiration, and everything else recently. God, I've not written a word of fiction since I finished that little piece of Ginny/Luna/Pansy ridiculousness. I was so wanting not to take two months on chapter 2 of my Narnia story (which is how long long it took me to write the first part), and now it's two and a half months later and I haven't even started yet. I made the mistake of starting to think about plot, and oh how I suck at plot. Every time I actually put pen to paper (hey, I'm old-fashioned like that :)) I get completely overwhelmed and then just start scribbling more notes on things that aren't particularly relevant to anything. Gah.
The Voyage of the Dawn Treader is out on December 10th. I'm really hoping to have chapter 2 up then. I'll be very annoyed at myself if I don't.
And have I mentioned how much I'm looking forward to The Voyage of the Dawn Treader? I even went onto 'Into the Wardrobe' to see if they had anything to say about it. Of course, I'd completely forgotten that it's entirely dominated by rabid Christian evangelicals, which is the reason I stopped visiting in the first place. God, I loathe them, and they're particularly annoying because they have canon and the author's intentions on their side, and obviously they consider their own interpretation of the text to be the only valid one. Grrr.
Anyway, what else?
Ooooh, has anyone heard about Sucker Punch? It looks awesome. I have no idea what it's about, cos really the trailer doesn't make a hell of a lot of sense :D, but still, awesome.
Also, This is relevant to my interests :D. REDHEADS, YAY ♥ ♥ ♥
LOL. Sorry. Not obsessed, honest :p
Oh, and I'm posting this vid purely because I heard this song for the first time a couple of weeks ago (as part of a rather fabulous Assassin!Adrian Andrews mix (f-locked, because the person who made it was too bashful to post it publicly. Silly ♥ ) and I LOVE IT (really gonna have to get hold of the album). I don't even know Veronica Mars. Is it any good?
Oh, and one more thing. I'm a little late here, and it's been all around my flist for a few days so most of you probably already know about it, but for those of you who don't and may be interested, the Queerly Awesome Comment Ficathon is in full swing. Go, prompt, write, have fun :)

(It's never been released in the UK :()

I believe there was talk of her joining the FBI for a 4th season but sadly it never happened.

Date: 2010-10-19 07:47 pm (UTC)It's a shame it only went to 3 seasons, and it's an even bigger shame that it doesn't seem to have been released in the UK. Still, that's hardly an insoluble problem :D

Date: 2010-10-19 08:06 pm (UTC)I don't think I'd remotely describe it that way. :-)
Each series has an arc plot of a particular mystery, but Veronica usually solves several sub-cases on the way. Little or no smut and Veronica is in no way the clean living girl scout Nancy Drew is.
If I had to describe it I'd say 'Buffy without any super powers'
Although Dave and I do agree it was good, which given how rarely we agree its a pretty damn fine recommendation! :-)

Date: 2010-10-20 08:51 pm (UTC)How very disappointing :p
Still, Buffy sans superpowers works almost as well. I'll look forward to checking it out :)

Date: 2010-10-17 08:36 pm (UTC)I still haven't seen Prince Caspian, not sure I'll go see Dawn Treader. I dunno, I'll probably get back into the series when they do the Silver Chair, I like that one. And they better do A Horse and His Boy or I'll be pissed! Isn't it frustrating that CS was so blatant about the Christian underpinnings? Things are much more fun when you don't know the author's true intentions and everyone can speculate and draw their own meaning :P
Sending you good vibes for your Narnia fic!

Date: 2010-10-18 08:38 pm (UTC)Prince Caspian was actually ok, and it was certainly better than The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe (which was always the worst of the books, after The Last Battle, that is, which SUCKS D: ). They actually changed it sufficiently that it had, horror of horrors, plot ,which helps a lot, and obviously they went very easy on the religiosity. I rather like The Voyage of the Dawn Treader as a book, and either way I'm really looking forward to seeing what they do with it. Of course, I'm also looking forward to there being a ridiculous amount of rather smutty RPF around (I'm so going to hell D:).
I've probably mentioned before how betrayed I felt when I found out Lewis had just been trying to get his nasty little Christian hooks in all that time. It's part of the reason I'm getting my revenge on him by writing incestuous porn about his characters :D.
I love the Horse and His Boy, it's always been my favourite, partly because I've always like The Arabian Nights, so I love the setting (although, of course, Lewis was hardly sympathetic to Arabian culture). I'm so looking forward to the prospect of them doing the film of it. Dawn Treader had so many problems, what with Disney pulling out, that I'm rather concerned that they won't do any more after this. Just have to keep our fingers crossed that it does well. If it does, it kind of has to be The Silver Chair next cos they have to have Eustace still being school age in it. After that, well, it had BETTER be The Horse and His Boy, and then The Magician's Nephew would be rather fun, but I don't care either way about The Last Battle because I loathe it with the burning power of a million white-hot suns :D
Thank you for the good vibes :) (I got a little Aravis/Lasaraleen smutbunny today, so when I finish part 2 I might just go with a nice little filthy Calormene-set PWP. They'd be kind of fun together :p).
I hope things are going well with you. How's your BB coming along? ;)

Date: 2010-10-18 08:47 pm (UTC)I know it just makes it worse when I stress about it, and there's nothing that solves the stress and overthinking better than just sitting down and just writing, but I always worry. God, if I actually spent the time I spend stressing over writing actually writing, I'd have written a bloody novel by now :/
Ho hum. Like you say, it'll come when it's ready :)

Date: 2010-10-17 10:04 pm (UTC)Short answer - yes :-)
Slightly longer answer - good characters, mostly well done, one of the best never spotted by the characters twists around and contains one of my all-time favourite characters in anything (Mac).

Date: 2010-10-18 08:55 pm (UTC)BTW Let me know what your plans are for Sunday, when you know them yourself :). I have Monday off so I don't have to rush off Monday morning. My friend Louise is going to be over from Berlin so we thought we might meet for lunch or tea-time-ish on Sunday, if you fancy it?

Date: 2010-10-17 11:23 pm (UTC)We've talked about this before, but I'll just say it again - you don't suck at plot, you just need to stop over thinking things. And, while deadlines are good, there's no rush - good things come to those who wait. <3
The Voyage of the Dawn Treader trailers look fab, and I'm really looking forward to it :).
I've seen the trailers for Sucker Punch before, and I have to agree that they look amazing. As for plot? I don't really care, it's action fantasy with a rather attractive ensemble female cast who kick ass with swords and machine guns while wearing fabulous outfits. With these ingredients, plot would just be overkill :P *is shallow*
LOL. Yay redheads!! I thought you'd like it :P
Oooh, I like that song. I've never seen VM either, although, if the above recs are anything to go by, maybe I should.

Date: 2010-10-18 09:18 pm (UTC)I feel bad about not posting more sometimes. I've been especially bad recently. Just had other things on my mind, I guess :)
If they do pills to stop you overthinking things, I think I could do with some :). I do appreciate you being so supportive, it helps a lot. You're far too sweet to me ♥
The Voyage of the Dawn Treader does look fab, doesn't it? And I predict a ridiculous amount of Edmund/Caspian smut (and Skandar/Ben smut, for that matter). I'm rather looking forward to it :p
(BTW Lucy/Susan icon FTW. LOL I'm going to burn in hell aren't I? And I'll so deserve it D:)
'k, so once I finally get part 2 out of the way (which will probably be almost entirely smut free, I'm sorry to report :p) I may feel the need to write you porn. Do you have any feelings on Aravis/Lasaraleen?:D
Sucker Punch is so going on my diary. It looks amazing. EMILY BROWNING. WITH A SWORD. KICKING ARSE IN FABULOUS OUTFITS. IT'S THE PERFECT COMBINATION. *hyperventilates*
LOL Sorry, I'm calm now :D
I think we've established that we're as shallow as each other. This pleases me :p
(I'm so glad you linked me to that tumblr. So much pretty. *sigh*).
Veronica Mars has been added to my list, but it's getting longer and longer, so I'm not sure when I'll get a chance to check it out :(. It looks kinda fabulous though :)
(I took the 'trick' option on Amy's trick or treat post and my forfeit was to only use icons that feature red-headed women for the next 24 hours. I AM NOT AT ALL DISPLEASED WITH THIS OBLIGATION :D :D
Of course, I suspect my Tonks icon might be breaking the rules slightly, but it's so pretty, and I thought you might appreciate it ♥ )

Date: 2010-10-18 02:16 am (UTC)I am so psyched about Voyage of the Dawn Treader it's not funny. I've been in a Narnia mood of late given I've got some Peter/Edmund icons to finish off for slash20in20 this week.
Sucker Punch looks awesome. No idea about the plot but they've got some pretty stunning visuals right there.
I like that song too. And I've never seen VM either. I've kind of been obsessed with Kristen Bell since I watched Heroes so I'll probably have to.
Also, I might send something your way this week or the next concerning that OT4 fic you were originally betaing for me. Let me know if that's okay. I know Skins fandom isn't very active right now but I wanted to at least get a few chapters in since a few people on my f-list are eagerly awaiting an update. That and I'm sure we're all using fanfic as a recovery tool for the awfulness that was the majority of S4 (with the exception of eps 2, 3 and 4 lol).
I think my biggest prob right now is characterisation. And I've noticed in a few previous posts on here and other places you've mentioned that Effy is your favourite character and that you relate to Emily. I kind of need that since those are the two characters I have the biggest trouble writing for. No pressure, let me know if you're free to help me out soon.
Anyway, take care. And it was nice to hear from you.
Btw, the Queerly Awesome Ficathon is possibly the best thing that's happened in fandom this year. It's amazing. <3

Date: 2010-10-18 09:41 pm (UTC)I'm very glad you like them. But yeah, forcing yourself to sit down and just write is a real bitch. It's just hard sometimes. Most of the time, really. But sometimes it just comes, which is fab, even if those times are rather rare :)
There are counters all over the various Narnia fansites with the days, hours, minutes and seconds to the release of Voyage of the Dawn Treader. It's about 56 days or something now, which feels like ages :(.
If you feel the urge to write fic for it, might I suggest Edmund/Caspian? (Or *cough*Skandar/Ben*cough* :p)
I WANT SUCKER PUNCH NOW! Why do we have to wait until March to see it? D:
I'd be happy to carry on betaing your OT4 :). Anna rather takes priority right now, as she's (hopefully!) still in the BigBang, but while I'm waiting for her I'm always happy to take a look at anything you fancy sending in my direction :). Skins fandom has been rather quiet recently, which makes me sad, so it's good to hear you're still writing for it :)
I LOVE Effy, and yeah, Emily is similar to me in a lot of ways (LOL the bad ways mostly :/) so yeah, I may be able to help you out on characterisation for them :)
Thank you <3
Things have been kinda hectic recently, so I think I may have seemed rather absent. Sorry 'bout that.
Have fun :)
(I'm so going to have to get my arse over to the ficathon when I get a bit of time. It does look fab :))

Now I just have to track it down, it doesn't seem to be available here :(.
On the plus side, though, my Legend of the Seeker S2 DVD finally showed up. YAY \o/ :D

Date: 2010-10-18 03:16 pm (UTC)I have discovered that signing up for an OU creative writing course has done wonders for my inspiration and motivation. I have two short stories under my belt in two weeks, both of which I'm pretty happy with - though I haven't posted them to the forum or got feedback from the tutor yet...

Date: 2010-10-19 07:38 pm (UTC)Oooh, I was wondering how your OU course was going. Are you enjoying it?
Two stories in two weeks is so good. God, I struggle to manage a story in a couple of months :/
I'd be interested to read them some time if you don't mind :)

Date: 2010-10-19 07:15 pm (UTC)I love His Dark Materials. I was so looking forward to them making the other two, even if they did make a bit of a mess of The Golden Compass. Apparently it made a little over $400 million, against a budget of 200 million, which doesn't compare that badly to Prince Caspian, but it did a lot worse in the US. So yeah, I think it's fair blame the bloody Christians. Grrrrrr.
I much prefer Emily Browning as a brunette, but still she pulls of blonde pretty well :D
