While I have a Tumblr account there are many reasons I intensely dislike Tumblr. However, on occasions it does come up with a few little gems (and pictures of adorable hedgehogs XD).

This is one of them. I'm shamefully ignorant of Baudelaire, and poetry in general. I love this though.

Get Drunk
"Always be drunk.
That's it!
The great imperative!
In order not to feel
Time's horrid fardel
bruise your shoulders,
grinding you into the earth,
Get drunk and stay that way.
On what?
On wine, poetry, virtue, whatever.
But get drunk.
And if you sometimes happen to wake up
on the porches of a palace,
in the green grass of a ditch,
in the dismal loneliness of your own room,
your drunkenness gone or disappearing,
ask the wind,
the wave,
the star,
the bird,
the clock,
ask everything that flees,
everything that groans
or rolls
or sings,
everything that speaks,
ask what time it is;
and the wind,
the wave,
the star,
the bird,
the clock
will answer you:
"Time to get drunk!
Don't be martyred slaves of Time,
Get drunk!
Stay drunk!
On wine, virtue, poetry, whatever!"

In other news: I work a little outside Warrington, which is solidly within Rugby League country . While I'm not a fan of the game (or any sport, really) I find it useful to show an interest because, after all, people like to talk about what they love and it's no skin off my nose listening and making polite noises. So in my afternoon tea break today I was talking with one of the couple of ex-professional players in the company and got to asking about the difference between Rugby Union and Rugby League. I got a rather long and detailed history of the history of the game, a certain meeting in the George Hotel in Huddersfield in 1895 that lead to the creation of the Northern Rugby Football Union (later the Rugby League) and basically how Union is a vastly inferior game in every way, dominated by a bunch of hypocritical southern toffs.
Which was less boring than it sounds actually (I like history, of all kinds, so) but wouldn't really warrant a mention here except for the fact that I just turned on the radio to Radio 4 to be regaled by exactly the same history, almost word for word (with admittedly less commentary on how Union sucks and League rules).
I guess that's what Jung would call synchronicity, right? It's strange how it happens.

It's been kind of a rough week. I'm very glad it's the weekend :)

I hope you're all well!
