Well, possibly much against my better judgment I just backed the Kickstarter for the Call of Cthulhu 7th Edition. I probably should just have waited till the books got published anyway, as it's already been funded 10 times over. But who can resist shiny, shiny things, right? I know I can't. That's why I tend to avoid going anywhere near Kickstarter. Much like Etsy and Ebay it's a place that will make you seriously consider the possibility that, really, food is overrated and what's your entire budget for if not to spend on pretty and cool things that you really don't need?

Though one thing I would totally back if they ran a Kickstarter for it is the new Masks of Nyarlathotep Companion which the lovely people at Yog-Sothoth.com published on pdf in celebration of their 15th anniversary last week. Over 500 pages (Masks itself is less than 300) and more than 4 years work. Yes, it's not entirely finished (they call it version 0.9) but it's as near as damnit and it's really impressive stuff. And rather good timing for me, as I'm going to be running chapter 2 fairly soon (assuming any of my players survive the re-intro scenario I started last week). I actually felt bad downloading it for free, even though they released it as a freebie. It feels wrong taking something that took that amount of work and not paying for it.
So yes, I'd love to see a Kickstarter for it, not least because it would make such a lovely book :)

Dave and Annie's anniversary day of boardgames and fun last Saturday was rather fabulous (if also rather exhausting!). I managed to hands-down-humiliatingly lose every game I played (even in Dobble, which is kind of like a nightmarishly difficult version of snap, I only managed to not come completely last because we were playing with a person was greatly impeded by much, much beer). Favourite new game of the day was Kingsburg which, as was pointed out, looked to have been rather 'inspired' by 'Game of Thrones' and was just lacking that pesky license to actually be able to name the rather familiar looking king and queen Robert and Cersei.
Also I got to play Stone Age, which is one of my favourite games ever. We hardly ever get to play it here because it's only a 4 player and we don't have the 5 player expansion.

Having spent a good couple or three months of this year, on and off, writing, typing up, and editing chapter 7 (of 8) of my magnum opus (not a phrase I use in any way seriously :p) and still being completely unhappy with it, I've decided I'm going to have to rewrite all but the first 800 or so words of it. Ugh, so demoralising :(
Oh well, better that than let it stand as is and be disappointed with it when I've spend so long over the story. At this point, the most important thing is that it's something that I'm as happy with as I can be. No point rushing the last couple of chapters when it's already been 3 years in the writing.
(The really irritating thing is that I plotted this chapter out one way, decided I couldn't make it work, went for something a lot more straightforward to write, and now I've realised that I should have written it how I planned it to begin with. Soooo annoying.)

I really, really want to go and see World War Z and no one wants to go with me. Boo :(

I've just started on season 3 of Community. I'd forgotten how awesome it is :D

I was thinking of podficcing a classic horror/ghost story for Halloween, assuming I can get over the fact that I hate my voice with a fiery passion (I have a reading of Lovecraft's 'The Nameless City' by Gareth David-Lloyd and it's like, ugh, I want to sound like him :/. He's got one of those voices that just make you go all melty. It's kind of gorgeous). I've no idea what I might choose yet though. I recently read Robert Chambers' 'The Repairer of Reputations' which is rather fabulous, but I was thinking a more traditional ghost story might be nice.
I don't know. There are so many of them!
Any suggestions? :)

Ugh, this has been such an unfocused ramble. Sorry :/
I think it's time for me to have a g & t and watch some more Community :)

Love and hugs, everyone :) :) :)
