3 days to go to Christmas and I still have to get something for my brother and my sister-in-law. I even went so far as to ask her what she might fancy, to which she responded, 'oh, you know, a book or a CD'. Which is the single most useless suggestion ever because I've known her for a decade and a half and I've always got her a book or a CD. It's basically what I do with anyone (although obviously, it's far easier to get presents for people I know well, and actually like). I thought about the new Norah Jones CD for her, because it strikes me as being suitably middle of the road, but reading the reviews it seems to be about the collapse of a relationship, and given the not entirely happy state of their marriage it might not be the most thoughtful present. Bugger.
I don't know. Micheal Bubble maybe? That's about as middle of the road as you can get. (Hell, it's a shame that Coldplay doesn't have a new album out. That'd be perfect). Or I could go the other way and buy her a Slayer or a Napalm Death CD. That'd teach her to be more specific.

Oh well, sitting here isn't going to get it done. God it's horrible outside. Wish me luck (and if anyone has any suggestions, that'd be good too).

Happy Christmas, all.

I actually quite like Michael Buble...*shame*

You could try John Barrowman (Another Side is the best imo) as he's nice and middle-of-the-road, but has a great voice and a lovely interpretation of classic covers. Yeah, I like him too...maybe I should give up goth and start going to W.I. meetings...

With people that are hard to buy for I generally go for wine!

Oooh thank you, what a fabulous idea :)
Definitely going for the John Barrowman CD, once I can force myself out into the rain and the cold. (And hey, no shame at all; I rather like Taylor Swift, which is just embarrassing, but I don't care :)).

How are you? Was sorry not to see you at the NMA gig. Did you enjoy?

(I didn't get around to commenting because I was at work, but the pictures you posted yesterday were fabulous. You looked lovely).

I'm doing my mum a copy of the Transatlanticism album for Christmas because I basically fell in love with it this year and think everyone should hear it! Do you think that's the kind of thing your sister might like?

My siblings were even more useless than that and said they didn't want ANYTHING which you know is ridiculous because if you actually go on that, they'll have got you something and then you'll feel like a tit...

*sigh*

Anyway - Merry Christmas my lovliness :)

And same to you as I said to Al - be careful outside! S'dangerous!! <3

Oooh. Icon love ♥ :)

I adore Trans, but I'm rather afraid that Harriet would find it a little impenetrable. Plans is a little more accessible for the first time listener though. (It's a bit moot really as I'm not sure either Plans or Trans will be in the HMV in town and it's too late to Amazon it). Tis a good thought though.

(And yeah, family members should at least have the thoughtfulness to suggest something. It saves on awkwardness and embarrassment all round).

Merry Christmas to you too, hun :)

(We just had a hail storm. It's even worse now :()

Oh God - hopefully they're a bit better equipped to deal with such weather up there. People have been flailing about for the last couple of days here - roads are blocked off, everyone's been leaving work early and people are getting stuck at home because their roads are blocked (allegedly).

I haven't heard Plans, I don't think. But I have... Narrow Stairs? My mum kindly slipped out that my uncle's got me an iTunes voucher so I may get it after Xmas. Ooh, what about one of those? Does she use iTunes?

Or what about just a voucher from HMV? That way she can choose her own...

(Pretty icon day! <3)

I always find it sort of funny how incapable we are of dealing with bad weather. A bit of snow and the whole country grinds to a halt. Ho hum, what can you do?

I went for the Michael Buble in the end, as there was no John Barrowman in HMV and I couldn't face traipsing round looking for it (I'm sure it would have been a much more entertaining listen though. I imagine his stuff to be incredibly cheesy and more than a bit camp, which is always a winning combination :) ).

I zipped Trans and Plans a little while ago and uploaded for a friend in the States, so if you fancy taking a listen to Plans it's here:-
http://www.mediafire.com/?sharekey=dbf964ebfa16aafc5bf1f12f1ff3f30a71c994d237adbfe0bf1b77d2eb488dac

(Like I said, it's both of them together, so it's a fairly big file).
It's pretty good, although I prefer Transatlanticism.

Here, have a picture of Kaya at the Tormented premiere :D)

Oh THANK YOU!! <3

What an ace Christmas present :) I've got a CD of the year to put up but most of the tracks are on my housemate's laptop (she let me share it for a year while I was too poor to buy a new one) and she's ill at her mum's so can't do it! But I will after Christmas :)

Hope your sister likes the Buble. My sisters like hardcore so they'd have a fit if I bought them that... hmm *has evil plan thoughts*

Oh, Kaya! Have a Meg one that I just made for the lulz.

MEG ♥ ♥ ♥
LOL. That's adorable :)

Is your flatmate still suffering from laryngitis? Poor thing. That sucks :(
I'm looking forward to hearing your mix. I'm gonna try and get something together before I go home for Christmas. I'm afraid people won't like it, but hey :)
I won't have a cover for it cos I have no photoshop skills, but it could be fun.

She's my sister-in-law rather than my sister. I did always want a sister, but I'm afraid I don't get on with her :(. I hope she likes it too. We'll see :)
(Maybe I could have got her some hardcore, and you could get your sisters some Michael Buble and John Barrowman ;D)

I would go with Buble. It's SO UNOFFENSIVE that it offends me. ♥

His song, the one with the video in the supermarket, was so annoying that I knew pretty much all of the words by the (accidental) second listen.

Buy something you'd like, Si - copy it and then give it to her. At least if she doesn't like it then you've got a copy of something you like ;)

(Is that the I haven't met you yet one? It's on the radio when I go into work every bloody day. It's driving me insane),

I've been known to do that :)
The last CD I bought my brother was a Dead Can Dance CD(Into the Labyrinth), because it contained my fave DCD song ever, The Ubiquitous Mr Lovegrove (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iT9Pn64Xusg), which is just fabulous. He hated it. Major fail :D

(Yeah that's the one... I can't cope with how he says certain words, like 'life-ah' and 'out-ah' *shudders*)

LOL, oops. Maybe don't do that again then. But they should be more specific. My sister said 'kitchen stuff' this year - so, what? Novelty potato peeler and a decent masher? Cos that's what I'd want! But she's a proper girl so IDK.

What about the Live Lounge CD? It's a double one. Or you could get her something particularly awful (Best of Cilla Black or something) and say that someone recommended it ;)

Kitchen stuff. LOL. Useful suggestion ;D But at least it narrows it down a little.

(One of my gaming group got me a mug commemorating that lesser known classic of children's literature "Peter Rabbit, Tank Killer", which was a product of the only collaboration between Beatrix Potter and Sven Hassel, author of such classics as 'SS Death Bastard Regiment'. (NB it is possible that some or all of that previous sentence may not be true :D). It's hilarious :) (of course it may be that gamer's humour is a little outside the norm ...)).

Cila Black. LOL. That would just be too cruel ;)

LOL that sounds... terrifying/fantastic!

I want to see that mug. I think. Do I?! *cowers/laughs*

Someone actually doctored the entire Tales of Peter Rabbit, and put it online, which is where my friend got the picture to get the mug. It's here (http://www.strategypage.com/humor/articles/military_jokes_200691721.asp) (the mug print is on this page).
Some people have too much time on their hands, but in a good way :D

That's the problem with it, he's just so bland. If I never hear that bloody single of his again, it'll be too soon.
But I think you're right; for someone with apparently no opinions about music, it's probably a safe bet.

Have a fab time with L over the holidays, dude ♥

Tis Mike Bailey, as Sid from Skins (most of my icons are Skins related, although I usually use my gen2 ones, especially Effy, whom I love.)

How about a copy of the new Skins fanfic/book? That should make for some lols - for you!
But really anything by the American Idol stable of useless singers/aka tuneless dreck should go over well, no?
Or if you never want to see them again, figure out Lulu and print them a book of some of our favorites stories ;)

Please excuse my lack of helpfulness - I feel your pain love.

I really have to get that book, although I just know it'll be awful (hell, I knew it before Betsy posted that summary, because TV tie-ins almost always are :().

Ah, yes, I can just picture giving Harriet those stories. Whatever would I call them? Because, you know, the first thing that springs to mind (copyright Meg Prescott, 2009), while accurate, might be a bit of a red light for someone not in fandom, yes? ;)

I'm sorted now, thanks. HMV limited my choice sufficiently that I went with the Buble thing. Suitably inoffensive, I suppose.
